In honor of Eli Roth's much delayed but finally released THE GREEN INFERNO, let's vote on which is the best cannibal flick to rule them all. Is it a Deodato, a Franco, a Lenzi or a D'Amato, a Mattei, a Roth or a Gariazzo? That might be my favorite rhyme ever. Take note: I'm limiting this to the traditional "tribal cannibalism" movies to keep things on the same plane. Perhaps in the future another poll on best films involving cannibalism (Ravenous, Texas Chainsaw, Alive, Hannibal, etc.) might also be worthwhile.
I had to vote for Make Them Die Slowly. That is the only title on the list that I was able to see theatrically. While I have 17 of these titles on video I've only seen 9 of them.
I voted Green Inferno, which is pretty unfair of me because it's so new and I'm still on such a high from it. I do think without the heavy sleaze-factor and animal violence, Green Inferno will have major replay value for me that a lot of the other cannibal films don't have. I will say that Cannibal Holocaust is by far the best of the subgenre, and easily the most impactful film on that list. I'll give an honorable mention to the underrated Cut And Run though, but I can't remember if that was even a cannibal film? I don't remember the tribe being cannibals, but it has been a long time since I've seen it. Regardless, it has the Deodato connection and is often referred to as the third part of his "cannibal trilogy", so I definitely understand why it's here.
This is one subgenre (along with rape-revenge movies) that isn't really my cup of tea. I'm going with Zombie Holocaust, a movie I genuinely enjoy because it's bursting with unintentional laughs and doesn't contain animal violence.
Had to go with Cannibal Holocaust. 2nd would be Cannibal Ferox. Honorable mention would go to Cannibal Apocalypse.
Going with Cannibal Ferox as it was the first one of it's kind I ever saw. Initially, it kinda pissed me off as it was not something I was expecting from a horror perspective. Over time, it has somewhat grown on me and is the one I always identify with when it comes to cannibalism. I'm not a huge fan of the genre, but it does definitely hold some entertainment value.
Cannibal Ferox is the most fun and entertaining one, but Cannibal Holocaust is still the ultimate movie in the genre, since it delivers a much darker and horrifying trip to the jungle.
I've actually only seen Holocaust, Ferox and Green Inferno.... Out of those 3 I've gotta go with Cannibal Holocaust.
I know that by "cannibal" what this poll is really asking is what "jungle cannibal" movie is your favorite. If we go by that rule it's Naked Prey followed by Cannibal Holicaust. But really, my favorite cannibal movie is Raw Meat.
