I went with DEEP RED. Goblin rules!!!
EXORCIST II: THE HERITIC: the movie may be crappy to some, but the score is so intoxicating. Especially the songs "Pazuzu (Theme)" and "Magic and Estecay"
Some definite good films to choose from, but I've got to go with HALLOWEEN. Never has a score been so important for a horror film.
Suspiria is my fav, u gotta love Goblin
Halloween was pretty good too, and it's not a horror film, but Trainspotting deserves a mention for it's use of Lou Reid-Perfect Day.
i really liked the music for The Omen. can't believe it wasn't in the poll.
I didn't like the music for the omen, but then again, the entire movie was butt-ass boring and dull. like a cheap rip off of the exorcist, minus all the fun and scares.
Other - 'Tenebre'
There are so many - but I went Halloween. Mainly because that music ended up DEFINING the film itself. A sequel without that theme would be no sequel at all - it is PART of the movie and franchise.
Halloween certainly! Exorcist is my runner up.
suspiria and also the church, goblin did a great score on that also
I would have to say The Bird With The Crystal Plumage. (Violenza Inatessa) That music is the best!! Its like a lullaby. Also, that Lullaby music from Deep Red is great too! Not really the theme, but it stays with you for days afterwards.
I guess I have a thing for Lullaby type music. Just wait until I make my epic Vampire movie...with a lullaby theme!
Okay Halloween would be my fave for I am a Halloween fan. Maybe thats why. I also love Carries music (the original of course). And I also love the music to The Shining though I didn't see that up on here for some reason. The music goes with every frame perfectly.
Voted 'Other'. My vote goes to Phantasm. Nothing brings me back to being a scaredy-cat 9 year old than that theme song!
Halloween is at a close-close 2nd.
...is a great score for that movie. So was Jaws and Exorcist. I liked Maniac and Hannibal's scores too.
For me it's Halloween with Psycho and Friday tied for a close second.
Best horror score?
Phantasm. Hands-down. How did that not make the list above?
After that, I think I generally lean toward The Evil Dead, Halloween, and Dawn of the Dead.
Suspiria is on a whole 'nother level. Out of all of these, it adds another layer to the filmmaking, instead of simply complementing it.
I actually have a thing about the Suspiria soundtrack... there are so many tracks on the album that aren't in the film. Most of the film is dedicated to repeats of about 3 or 4 selected tracks.
Same with Halloween.
Some great options here but I cannot pass on voting for Bernard Herrmann's classic score for PSYCHO. He was one of the great film composers and that track is still being knocked off and referenced to this day.
