Hate to be obvious but my favourite is Black Christmas. Tons of scenes that can still creep me out, some decent humour, and the voice on the phone is pure perfection. Easily in my top 5 movies of all time, not just horror movies.
Black Christmas - one of the few horror movies that gets under my skin every time I see it. I think it's a combination of the phone calls and never seeing the killer.
Black Christmas is my favorite Canadian horror flick as it set the standard for holiday slashers. Cronenberg's The Brood would rank second for me.
My favorite Canadian horror film? Ginger Snaps. It's got great acting, great cinematography, and awesome music. And it's a lot of fun too, which is a big plus.
I'd like to be different, but Black Christmas is definitely my favorite. It's suspenseful, creepy, and funny with its humor not distracting from the horror.
I'd have to say at the moment that it's CANNIBAL GIRLS because it's a pretty effective horror movie made all the more surprising by the fact that it stars future SCTV comedians Andrea Martin and Eugene Levy. I'd love to know when this will be released on DVD.
Black Christmas The one other movie, besides a Christmas Story, that I have no problem watching every time Christmas comes along. Ironic that they were both directed by Bob Clark.
It's a toss up... The Mask I love because it has so many connotations for me. I love the 3d of it (It Works!) and also because I saw it midnight on a new years eye many years ago when I left my Aunt Viv's smoke filled party at the age of 12 and met my best friend who was watching it on tv next door and we became best friends for over 20 years. God bless wxxa 23 albany and theater bizarre!!! The Brood was the other favorite as I watched it on VHS during a snowstorm out in the country and I think it may be the chilliest movie I have ever seen, perhaps even more so than The Thing, etc. because it isn't overtly cold, and reflects many of the character's chilly repressions that are having so many deleterious aftereffects. What's interesting about both films is that they both represent physical manifestations of psychological issues, with even the title The Brood having a double meaning in the context of what happens in the film. The mask could also be the first canadian film to covertly talk about drug addiction and its behaviors...
Hmmm, this is a really tough one but I might have to go with Rabid 'cause I am nuts for Marilyn Chambers. But, I will say that Black Christmas is the best.
My favorite Canadian horror flick is definitely Ginger Snaps. It's an almost perfect movie in my book.
I’m saying Shivers. I enjoy it for it's surrealism. Best Canadian horror had to be a Cronenberg film, right?
Toss up between The Gate and Severed : Forest Of The Dead for me, with The Gate inching ahead due to the fact I am a nut for stop motion and the effects in this movie are still amazing to me to this day. **Jack Brooks Monster Slayer also get's in the mix
Lots of great choices out there. I give my vote to Prom Night. The scene where the severed head launches out onto the dance floor, scaring the crowd out of the gym, is a true classic.
While I love stuff like The Brood, Shivers, Ginger Snaps, Rabid, and Cannibal Girls, my favorite hands down is Black Christmas. That movie defines skin crawling terror.Bob Clark didn't make enough horror films as far as I'm concerned. He was a true master of the genre.
