With the success of Godzilla, the Japanese sure shot out a lot of monster movies in the ensuing years and decades following. All those films would come to be defined as the "kaiju" monster genre, but which beast from the batch is your favorite?
I haven't been able to get into these movies in years but definitely Godzilla. I always loved Hedorah as a kid, although at that time I thought his name was just The Smog Monster. I don't think I knew he even had a name until about 10 years ago. I also really like Godzilla's son when I was a kid. I don't know if he had a name or not, but I liked his little scrunched up face and baby smoke rings.
I'm not as big a fan as I used to be but Godzilla is still number one. I've collected nearly 200 movie posters for Godzilla films over the years.
I'm fond of them all, especially King Ghidorah, Hedorah, Gigan, and Mechagodzilla, but I've got to stick with the real king- Godzilla.
Had to go with Godzilla. I've been a fan of kaiju eiga since the days I'd run home from school to watch the 4:30 movie on channel 7 Detroit. That program is probably responsible for my love of horror and sci-fi movies, thanks to their weekly themes: Godzilla, Gamera, Planet of the Apes, Vincent Price, etc. There's a nice tribute here: http://www.dvddrive-in.com/TV%20Guide/430movielogo.htm
Godzilla is still tops for me. I'm still working on the Godzilla Collection from Classic Media that I got a few months ago. King Ghidorah is my second favorite. I had a serious addiction with the video game Godzilla Save the Earth. My top two picks for fighting on that game were Mechagodzilla and Gigan.
yeah, i just picked that up. im gonna wait till ive watched them all before making a choice in this poll that second poster is bad-ass!
Godzilla!! when i was a kid, i had this big remote control Godzilla, he could talk and roar and everything. i miss him
I lived in Detroit back then as well. I would also race home from school all excited to see Monster Week on the 4:30 Movie. If I'm not mistaken, it was the 4:00 Movie for quite some time prior to the time slot move. Just the intro for the show always got me excited. Ahhh, memories.
You know, I was thinking the same thing, that it was 4 o'clock too. Seems this was a syndicated show as many of the tribute websites I've seen refer to New York but it was definitely Detroit in my case. Living in South-Western Ontario in the 70s, we received a handful of US stations from Detroit, Cleveland and Erie. Japanese Monster week was easily my favourite theme. I can remember kids re-enacting the movie they watched the previous night during recess. It was tough for a single kid to pull off Ghidorah but somehow we managed.
I voted "other." Where's Minilla? He was my favorite as a kid and I still have a big soft spot for him.
Godzilla of course, but it is unfair to include him with any other monster, no one else has a chance!
True,it is sort of like having a ''Favorite Movie Superspy" poll and having James Bond on the list.Kinda leaves Derek Flint and Matt Helm in the dust.
