Let's see what you've noticed :) Post your best goofs/mistakes from horror films here.

    I'll start.

    Halloween

The Mistake: The movie is set in a fictional Illinois town, while you can clearly see California palm trees in the background (where the film was shot).

There's also a big ass palm tree in Friday The 13th Part III when they pick up Vera at the beginning. The previous sequels established the setting as New Jersey. Not to mention Jason's face, considering this takes place almost immediately after Part 2.

The new Amityville: The Awakening, the high school there is littered with palm trees as well.

Along with seeing the palm trees in Halloween, all of the other trees are nice and green which wouldn't be the case in late October in the Midwest. I know they had big bags of leaves and some fans to blow the leaves around a bit here and there to make it look more fall like, so it worked out ok in the end.

That whole film was a mistake. ;)

In Nightmare on Elm Street 3 Patricia Arquette's character is called both Kristen and Kirsten.

Now this one I've never noticed or even herd mentioned before. I'll have to keep an ear out for that when I watch it next.

I mentioned this in the Halloween tracking thread but there are several in Return of the Living Dead. Like this one:

That's the guy controlling the half zombie lady hiding under the table. Very noticeable in motion. It's possible that could be Tarman Allan Trautman because he's mostly known for being a puppeteer. There are several others but I didn't get screenshots for any others yet.

I always figured it was a pronunciation issue, or just misinterpreting the audio. But if others have picked this up maybe they were between names when shooting began, or an actor made a mistake that wasn't obvious enough to pick up. But I have noticed when watching.

In I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER the film opens with a group of friends partying on a North Carolina beach. While much of the film WAS shot on the East coast ,this scene apparently wasn't as the beach is set off of high cliffs whereas the Carolina's don't have beaches like that, they are open and sandy, set next to relatively low land. Looks like the West coast in the film.

You're probably right. It may just be a pronunciation issue.

It's been awhile since I watched it but I think most characters say Kristen but Arquette herself says "Kirsten" a couple times. According to the imdb Goofs page the character's name was Kirsten in Craven's original script which could be the source of the discrepancy.

In the opening scene of The Thing, the helicopter flies a little too close to the dog and it gets spooked.

The original Friday The 13th is littered with goofs. For instance, when they play strip Monopoly, they establish an order of turns, and in the next scene they are going in a completely different order. Also, Ned is seen eating a hamburger in the scene before they make the hamburgers.

Wouldn't be so bad if incidentally a vampire's reflection hit a random mirror on set, Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein is a comedy where laughs come before anything, but they clearly setup this shot artfully so that the focus of the action is in the mirror. So everyone on set knew Dracula would be reflected in the mirror. :p
