Looks like the Creepers cut of Phenomena will be included on the upcoming Blu-Ray.

I watched the Long Weekend disc last night. Extras are the same as the old DVD. Commentary, trailer, and a brief photo gallery with audio from John Hargreaves.

The daytime exteriors look stunning, but during the nighttime scenes you notice a lot of white specks and print damage. I was surprised the Rock! Shock! Pop! review says there isn't much. It'll probably only bother you if you're extremely nitpicky. It's a great presentation, but not as impressive as Demons, Prom Night, or Curtains.

I love that Synapse's retail blu-rays are so inexpensive. I was able to sell my Long Weekend DVD for the same cost as the blu-ray, so it was a free upgrade. If the DVD was only worth a couple bucks, I probably wouldn't have bothered upgrading this one. It's not the most re-watchable movie ever. The last half-hour is quite effective though, and the 2.35:1 cinematography is gorgeous.

^^ good to hear about Long Weekend.

I just got it delivered from Amazon a day early, so I'm gonna check out the Blu later tonight.

Can anyone confirm the region coding on Long Weekend please? Beaver has it as locked, Mondo has it as free. Any input would be greatly appreciated,

    Cheers

I can check later and let you know. The back cover does show the "A" region icon though...

Edit: just checked and AnyDVD HD decodes that the disc is indeed "A" locked.

Wow, what's with the dig at the Rondo's? Isn't that's mostly monster kid stuff anyways?

I mean, yeah, they cover "horror" in general but it's mostly run by and for baby boomers who still read Famous Monsters. Synapse has a better shot at an award for Manos than any Phenomena.

I think it's due to perceived snubs in the "BEST RESTORATION OR UPGRADE" category the last couple of years, particularly for Demons and Prom Night.

Edit:...they did get some recognition for Countess Dracula this year, though.

And they got recognition for Countess Dracula because it's a Hammer Picture.

Nominations are based on public submissions but the only ones who know enough about it to submit are a bunch of baby boomers watching movies made decades before Demons or Prom Night were ever made. But of course Hammer's in play (even though Synapse did comparatively little in way of restoration next to Demons/Prom Night).

This isn't Fangoria or even Rue Morgue territory we're talking here. It's Famous Monsters territory. A VERY specific slice of the horror genre. Synapse might as well complain about being snubbed by the MTV Movie Awards.

And as I said they're open to the public, so if Synapse ever falls short it's purely because of a deficiency in their fanbase and not because of any Rondo conspiracy.

I'm a big fan of Synapse and really couldn't care less about the Rondo's, but Synapse is WAY off base here.

Seeing that Rondo comment and remembering the few times that I voted made me think the same; not really sure why they think that their releases are this kind of material.

Yep, if you go to their forum about up coming Blu Rays, a Vincent Price film, or an old sci-fi film from the 50's will get a 2 page discussion, while a 80's horror, or a cult title like GONE WITH THE POPE thread will die out after two-three replies. A completely difference audience there.

I thought it was interesting a rep from Arrow asked the folks there what titles they want to see Arrow release, and sure enough, 90% were old horror to sci-fi from the 30's to 60's. I am sure Arrow guys were completely baffled over the requested titles. ;)

Another Long Weekend Blu-ray review: http://www.dvddrive-in.com/reviews/i-m/longweekendblu.htm

I watched the Blu-ray last week and Synapse did another great job. The 5.1 remix sounded really solid, with effective usage of the rear speakers and LFE channel. I doubt I'll even watch it with the mono audio again.

Where the hell is Thundercrack!? As much as I want these Argento titles, this seems like a far more exciting release...
