A 4K UHD Blu-ray release of Tobe Hooper's The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is up on Amazon.de: http://www.amazon.de/Chainsaw-Massacre-HD-Blu-ray-Blu-ray-Discs-Digital/dp/B01DXIP53C/

I haven't been able to find much details, other than Turbine Medien posting on Facebook that it's not an April Fools joke: https://www.facebook.com/turbinemed...029205713409/1361134787236172/?type=3&theater

I'd probably wait for reviews, as German companies are notorious for releasing upconverts. However they have also ponied up for their own superior new scans too. So we shall see. It looks like the cover sticker explicitly states it's not an upscale though! That's a new one...

Turbine has released some top notch Blu-Ray's, so I trust them to do a great job with the 4K release :)
I'm gonna buy a 4K OLED later this year, so this will be a great way to start the new collection.
Happy too see that we don't have to wait 2-3 years for the cultlabels to jump on the new format.

Btw, Ultra Blu-Ray is completely region free, so no more need for mods :)

Even if I had a 4K player, I think I'd easily pass on this one. I doubt a jump up to 4K is going to be any huge revelation with this film.

I'm gonna get this release, since I didn't get the latest Blu-Ray release.
But, no, it's not going to be the same kind of an epic upgrade, in comparison to something shot on 35mm, like Suspiria.

Sorry I didn't make that too clear, I thought Braindead was an April fools joke. I didn't even translate it, just used my H.S. German to get a feel for the two Braindead posts. But translating it with Google I see they're just taking about Braindead uncut being unbanned in Germany. No reports of DVD, Blu-ray or theatrical release. Just that Turbine got it through the new certification process uncut, same as they did for TCM in Germany. I've removed that now to prevent confusion.

Peter Jackason has reportedly been working on remastering the splatter trilogy since before The Hobbit, saying that they would begin in earnest remastering them after finishing the final Hobbit. So this might be a very good sign after all!

Thanx for clearing that up X-human. I still have a copy on DVD from my old Dutch vhs, which I bought 20 years ago at a video store that was going out of business. It's full screen, it's terrible quality, but I love it :) That said, a nice HD upgrade would be more than welcome!

HD-DVD was region free, and so rumors were that Blu-ray would be too. Don't know how serious those rumors were.

I guess with DVD and Blu-ray sales dwindling they didn't even bother for UltraHD. Although I'm sure the Blu-ray on this release will be Region B still.

Got this 4k set the other day. First off, the two blu-rays that come with the set, the movie disc is region free but the bonus features disc is locked to B. As for the 4k disc, I thought it was worth the upgrade. I noticed an increase in picture quality but considering I've seen the movie numerous times, that is not surprising. If I was a casual fan, I think the regular blu-ray would be sufficient. There are a LOT of audio options on this disc but I just have a pesky soundbar, so I can't comment on the Atmos track or anything like that, lol.

Where'd you get it from? It seemed to have disappeared from Amazon Germany when I checked last.

It's gone down again (what is up with Amazon's fluctuating prices? lol). May want to get it while it's decently priced.

I don't see any big difference between the 4K disc and my UK 40th Anniversary Blu-ray. The black levels look somewhat better in a couple of comparisons, but it's certainly no major upgrade or anything as far as visible detail/colors.

Yeah. I'm not sure what you can get out of 16mm negatives anyway at 4K that MY eyes will notice.

I'm ready for 4K for other films, but I think I'll pass on this one.

As far as grain and black levels go, the UK Blu actually seems to be somewhat better than the German UHD.
