October 31: HAPPY HALLOWEEN...a day late I was all set to do my usual Ginger Snaps/Halloween/Trick r' Treat/American Werewolf/Fulci movie/Suspiria/etc. Halloween deal. The movies I pretty much watch every year on the BIG DAY. Then I thought to myself, "hmmm maybe I'll do something completely different this year". So I decided to watch only movies that I have been meaning to watch, movies I have never seen before, movies that I purchased and was looking forward to watching but had never got around to them for one reason or another...mostly because I kept waiting for the right time to watch them. Halloween's a good time and this is what I watched: REC 2 (2009) - This is an excellent sequel. Thrilling, scary, action filled, it has everything that the first one had but with more back story. Troll Hunter (2010) - Entertaining flick. The obviously put a lot of thought into how to bring troll lore to life and the trolls were pretty well done. Wasn't crazy about how the movie ended. The Changeling (1979) - Lots of creepiness but I was actually surprised that there was so much stuff outside of the house. The ghost was a jerk. The almost two hours flew by like nothing. 28 Weeks Later (2007) - I loved this movie. I loved everything about it. It was horrible, heartbreaking, funny, looked great, had an amazing score and a really good cast...except for the annoying little boy. Say Yes (2001) - Our good friend Dwatts recommended this one a long time ago and even though it got a little melodramatic and unrealistic at points, it still was a tense little thriller with a bit of a surprise at the end. Cronos (1993) - Interesting take on vampires and it has Ron Perlman being a bad guy. Another excellent film from Del Toro. Burning Bright (2010) - Gotta admit I was on the edge of my seat for this one. You never knew when the tiger would show up....let's be honest, you pretty much know how it'll end and the main girl did a few silly things (though I thought mostly her character was pretty smart), but for a film about a girl and her autistic brother trapped in a house with a tiger it worked really well. Mother Of Tears (2007) - Pretty much a train wreck but once I realized that I wasn't going to get another Suspiria or Inferno, it became enjoyable in a silly, silly kind of way. Not sure I'd watch it again though.
