Yes, the Dragon DVD is fullscreen, open matte. I've owned it for years...got it from Xploited Cinema when they were still in business. As Hellbilly said, I believe they used a video "master" for the transfer. It looks pretty good.
I may well be tempted to bite on this as there doesent appear to be any chance of a better version being released and there are a couple of copies reasonably cheap on Ebay. Thanks for the info
I'm positive the German DVD is the 'best' version of The Mutilator out there. At least the DVD Image resolution is better than common vhs by default
I've had a copy of this for ages and never watched it fully until now. Apart from some seriously bad acting this was quite an enjoyable slasher. No guesswork who the killer is and some great kills, one is particularly brutal and quite original. I would add it to my blu collection for sure.
I've watched it on a 46 inch samsung using panasonic BD550 it looks good enough ( and the best I think we are getting any time soon )
I've still got my Dragon DVD of this too. It looks alright although the night scenes tend to be a little too dark at times. Eagerly awaiting patiently for a HD release.
The Mutilator would be a holy grail for me if it ever reaches the BD format. The film is as gritty and hardcore as they come and I consider it to be the granddaddy of ALL slasher flicks, even though it came out in '84 - the tail end of the slasher boom. I got so excited when Code Red first announced a DVD release that, to this day, I haven't felt the same way about the label again.
The bootleg I have for THE MUTILATOR looks dam good. I would think most horror fans would be more than pleased with it. I'm usually quick to upgrade my bootlegs when a legit release is available but I find THE MUTILATOR to be fucking garbage. There is no way I could sit through that scene where adults play hide seek again. It's one the dumbest things I've seen in a horror film. THE MUTILATOR had one amazing kill and a few other decent ones but everything thing else around it is mind numbingly stupid.
Holy shit, it looks like The Mutilator is finally coming out, from Arrow, no less! 88 Films all but confirmed it. Well, Arrow wasn't mentioned specifically, but this pretty much says it all: "...The Mutilator looks likely to have a good British release from an obviously worthy company" (BR.com) . Now all we need is the official announcement. Naturally, I'm beside myself
Yup, read about the news on the Cult Labs forum, and thought it was an early April Fools joke Can´t believe this is finally happening
Christ. It's about fucking time, although I'm going to go broke this year with all of the shit that's coming out.
Lol. If you can only buy ONE Blu-ray this year, it looks like this will be it Arrow will no doubt go all out with this.
And to think I nearly bit the bullet and bought the German DVD off Ebay last week. If this is true i'm so glad I didn't! !!
I wonder if this will be region-locked out of the US due to Code Red claiming to have a valid contract with the rights owner.
I read something on Cult Labs that Code Red´s license have expired. Hope it is true, and Arrow sells many thousands of copies in the US and Europe, so we can all enjoy some epic rants from Bill Olsen
I saw that post on Blu-Ray.com, but it looks like there was another, more straightforward, post on 88 Films' Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/permalink....d=1047638768586065&offset=0&total_comments=18
I hope so. If it's region locked after all this I'll be pissed. Wouldn't really make sense for Buddy to do a European locked Blu release only.
I may be the imperfect vessel of a greater power, but every time I read a comment from someone who is frustrated by region locking I feel compelled to share the joyous Gospel of the region-free Blu-ray player. Cast off your chains and rejoice in the unfettered glory of the region-free player!
