Yeah, some good deals in there for a change. I got:
The [REC] Collection
Universal Horror Collection: Vol. 1
Universal Horror Collection: Vol. 2
Murders In The Rue Morgue
Scream Factory is aware of the problems in the F13 set and are looking into it!
Hey Katatonia. You just cost me $340.00.
Well look at it this way... I probably bought most of the titles you grabbed... and paid way more than that long ago!
Seriously though, I didn't buy anything on the sale. I already pretty much had everything I wanted/needed except for a couple of cheap titles, but didn't see anything else to break the free shipping threshold and make it worthwhile.
Some screenshot comparisons are also up for:
Friday the 13th Part III
Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives
Jason Goes to Hell
Hmmmm, must say the grain on the Warner Bros. set for Part 1 provides some nicer detail. But the colors pop more in the Shout!. However, almost to the point of slight blur.
Part 3 is the same with less vibrant colors, but you're probably watching in the grey 3D way so there's that.
Part 6 on the Shout! definitely looks nicer. 'Nuff said.
Nice and bright with less blues on JGTH and X. Not sure how I feel about losing the blue on the face freeze scene from X though - lol.
Trying to buy some stuff from the sale but I'm stuck in an endless payment loop. I enter my info and then it just brings me back to the payment page to start over.
Thanks for posting--I don't feel bad about my $137 purchase now.
People should definitely inspect all of their Friday the 13th discs. Over half of mine in the set have fingerprints, smudges, or tiny scratches that had to be cleaned off. Checking the discs now (watching everything in fast forward) to see if there are any playback issues. This honestly makes me more mad than the errors affecting all sets. Those things happen and Scream has a track record of fixing things like that with replacement programs. But there is no reason for a disc to arrive damaged when bought directly from the distributor in a package that is completely fine (ie problems weren't caused because of shipping).
Technically scratches don't just wipe off.. Should I cancel my pre-oder? I'm reading nothing but problems after problems, issues after issues etc. I would welcome advice from everyone on here.
True, but wiping with a microfiber cloth got rid of all light scuffing, fingerprints, and smudges. The scratches still remained, but I checked all contents on every disc that I cleaned and didn't notice any lock up.
I'd recommend getting the set, just don't wait to watch it. If there is an error caused by a dirty disc, you'll be able to get a replacement. The errors on the 3D, JGTH, and JX discs are on all copies and will likely be part of a Scream Factory replacement program. They've done replacements for less in the past, at least. I think the set is great and full of awesome features, it was just rushed to meet an October release date and so the QC suffered.
Opened my package today and the box set itself seems pristine - no dents or anything. However, my lithograph has a slight “chunk” taken out of it on the bottom right edge. I’m talking like 1/4-1/2” long (length of the poster) and maybe a millimeter or two in. If I were to frame it I’d have no issue with matting around it, but it’s still an imperfection. The other poster has a similar little dent in the same area but nothing missing. Not as big of a deal. It almost looks like whatever they used to cut or chop this card stock had a little issue in that area.
Anyone else notice imperfections like this?
I haven’t gotten into the Blu’s yet.
Both of my posters are in like new condition. Was the poster tube damaged?
Nope, poster tube looks fine.
Sorry to hear that. For the price of this set there should have been a little better quality control.
Agreed - they will be hearing from my lawyers, lol.
I just checked all the Blu's physically. Lotsa of smudges, fingerprints here and there. The only disc that had a couple of small scratches was the F13 remake. Everything else cleaned right off. I'm going to start running VSO checker on all the discs. I'm only about 30% through the theatrical cut of Part 1, so this may take some time
@Katatonia - Using VSO Inspector now. Is "surface scan" sufficient, or should I really be doing "File Test" too? Both take roughly an hour and half or two to complete
Surface scan only, that will tell you if a scratched or problem disc has any "read" errors in the drive you're trying it on. If it shows no "Problem" or "Error" at the end you should be good.
But yeah... for BD-50 Blu-rays and UHD discs, it does take a while to run through the entire disc checking the CRC sectors. With CD's it's really fast, and DVD's are usually fairly fast too.
BTW, I did get an email reply earlier from Shout and they said they would send me a replacement disc for my Jason Goes to Hell scratched disc that skips.
