I can't find an English article on Google, but according to his wikipedia entry, Giannetto De Rossi passed away today. (On a personal note, it's my birthday today, so that's a bit of a bummer.)

He worked on the makeup effects for such wonderful Italian films as Zombi 2, The Beyond, House by the Cemetary, Cannibal Apocalypse, Zombie Holocaust, and Killer Crocodile, as well as more mainstream stuff like David Lynch's Dune, Conan the Destroyer, Dragonheart, Kull the Conqueror, Rambo III, and the Stalone vehicle Daylight. He also directed Killer Crocodile 2, which I watched recently and found to be way more enjoyable than it had any right to be.

There's a really great career retrospective on him on Severin's Killer Crocodile 2 blu ray, in which he comes across as a decent guy, modest and unpretentious. His effects were gruesome and fantastic. Sorry to see him go. He was 78.

Love his work. He also did some spectacular effects for Haute Tension. Rest in peace.

His magnificent gore, in Fulciā€™s movies, are still among the best of the genre.

RIP to a legend. I watched RaMBO III yesterday afternoon and had forgotten how awesome the cauterization scene was.
