Hahaha, fair enough about the colour saturation. But comment on the contrast still stands.
That I agree on
Should it, though? Moot point, but caps # 4 and 5 seem to muddy up the waters a bit re: which release has superior contrast.

Yeah, it's probably a blessing in disguise since the only two I really had to have were Blood for Dracula and Nosferatu in Venice. I've already got All the Colors of the Dark on DVD and Retribution was gonna be a blind buy that I was pretty iffy on anyways. Instead I can spend the money on the the World of Wong Kar Wai set that I only found out about yesterday!
I'm kind of dying to see the Blood for Dracula disc though, but I guess I can be patient until it comes down in price. I wonder how long it will take for it to show up on Amazon...
I've only watched the disc containing Giallo trailers, and it's still worth every penny I spent on it. (I started on the doc, but it's pretty dry. The trailers are aces though)
And with that you open yet another picture/sound quality, director revisionist film edits, and playback issue can of worms. Been plenty of bickering and complaints about that recent grail release, enough for me to hold off (at the VERY least for the next 50% off Criterion sale and after some disk quality corrections).
Like some Criterion releases it may well work out its the best we'll ever see, but I am concerned about not getting quite the same versions of certain films that were released before. Even assuming Criterion fixes the playback issues (I do have faith they'll address that at least).
Yeah, I watched a bit of the doc on Prime, and wasn't all that blown away. It started with the usual talk about the mondadori books etc etc. But the trailers, the trailer commentary, and the cd all sound great. And I'm sure the doc will be at least worthwhile.
Def in for drop dead fred and midnight
This is huge! Definitely looking forward to Midnight and a Day of Judgment!
Those ones are the opposite where the contrast in those caps on the Cinema Cult are boosted (instead of crushed like the others) which brings the shadows and absolute blacks looking unnaturually brights and muddy.
Midnight is a really fun, regional film. Been waiting for a while for someone to unearth it with neg and all that. Day 1, as they say.
Not sure if you picked up the Wong Kar Wai set yet but it's 50% off on Amazon right now.
Thanks for the heads-up! After reading about all the playback issues though, I think I'm holding off for now.
I got the Eurocrypt tonight by selling off a 39 dvds and blu that I have upgraded but never got rid of. Got $142 in store credit from Bull Moose so I have got quite a bit left over. The booklet is quite nice!
Mondo Digital reviews the Strike Commando double feature: Strike Commando 1 & 2 (mondo-digital.com)
I ordered the recent Franco Blu’s a while back with no shipping notification yet… am I alone?
Fast shipping from Severin after a big sale is virtually non-existent. It wouldn't surprise me if it takes up to a month or longer for all orders to ship.
Thanks, Kat, good to know. Not an issue for me personally, as my work has been non-stop since January and movie-watching has taken a hit, just wanted to make sure nothing was off.
Plus, the conspiracy nuts at a certain site believe that Severin is repressing Blood for Dracula after the review of the test pressing got so much negative attention.
